In India, women are told to "stay strong," "don't talk about it," and "think of the family." Mental health is health — and you deserve to feel okay.

These are not personal failings. These are medical realities that need medical attention.
These aren't weaknesses or character flaws. They're conditions that millions of Indian women live with silently — and don't have to.
Not "just sadness." Depression is a medical condition where the brain's chemistry shifts. It can feel like a fog you can't shake — loss of pleasure, exhaustion, emptiness, or feeling disconnected from everything you love.
In India: often dismissed as "laziness," "being too sensitive," or "hormones." Women may mask it by staying busy or hiding behind family roles.
Chronic worry that feels impossible to switch off. Racing heart, difficulty sleeping, a constant sense that something bad is about to happen. Sometimes panic attacks that come out of nowhere.
In India: women are often anxious about family expectations, marriage pressure, career vs. care roles, and constant comparison. The worry feels rational — but the body's response is beyond the mind's control.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder is severe emotional and physical symptoms in the 1–2 weeks before your period. Not "just PMS" — PMDD can cause debilitating depression, rage, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts that disappear almost the moment your period starts.
Often misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder or just "being hormonal." It's real and it's treatable.

After birth, 1 in 3 Indian mothers experience more than "baby blues." PPD includes persistent sadness, difficulty bonding with the baby, feeling like a bad mother, crying for no reason, and sometimes frightening thoughts.
It is not your fault. It's not about whether you wanted the baby. It's not about whether you're a good person. It's hormones, sleep deprivation, and a body under extreme stress.
You don't need to tick every box. If several of these feel familiar and have lasted for 2+ weeks, please reach out — to Aali, to a friend, or to a professional.
You don't need to have everything figured out. You just need one next step.

Note when you feel worst — time of day, time of month, situations. Ask Aali for a simple mood tracking approach. Patterns are powerful information for any doctor or therapist you speak to later.
You don't need to go directly to a psychiatrist. Your regular doctor can do basic screening, check thyroid and hormones (both affect mood significantly), and give you a referral. Aali can help you know exactly what to say so the appointment goes well. Prepare with Aali →
